so i bought some belgian endives . . .

I've gotten into this funny little habit of purchasing a vegetable (sometimes other things, but most often vegetables) at the market that I have never had before/heard of/cooked with etc. I just grab it and scour the net for a worthy recipe. Among the list : jicama, collard greens, eggplant, artichokes, radishes, leeks, spaghetti/acorn squash. And frankly I've enjoyed every single one. Now I'm tickled at the prospect of what I'll come home with and figure out (this week it was rutabagas, i'm still in research phase.)

Well last week . . . it was endives. Belgian endives. They're bitter, and tricky, but the belges love them, and I figured it was worth a go. Okay, these pictures don't really do justice to how good these actually tasted.

The first two were a pear + balsamic viniagarette + chickpeas + les endives. It was delicious

I decided to run with the sweet/bitter, so I made the second batch with grapefruit, and straight balsamic vinegar (apparently my creativity was running low) and you know, it turned out great.

And believe me, there will be plenty more experimental dishes to come.

I am not at all adventurous with food - let alone vegetables.

I admire your courage!
