Guilty Music

Do you have music that you listen to when you're not mentally ready to absorb something epic? Sometimes (as in the past few days) I've been listening to music that is comfortable and familiar. Artists like Feist, and Norah Jones, and Coldplay, and Adele, and Amy Whinehouse, and KT Tunstall, and Brandi Carlile, and Billie Holiday, and Corinne Bailey Rae, and Duffy have been employed to achieve an effect not dissimilar to that of warm chocolate chip cookies: consumed with shameless over-consumption. Oh guilty. They take me back to a time when I . . . when I wasn't here. I find myself missing such days more than I'm willing to admit. So the confession which I will make will be in mere vicarious relation to the music that I listened to at such times.

Times when I was first realizing how feminist my music taste is, when I was in the bath tub, when I went to a great big concert and made people jealous, when I wanted to sing out loud, when I wanted a bouffant and thick eyeliner, when I was at Nordie's buying sunglasses and wanted her CD, when Rachel and I drove to Pasadena, when Miss Dawn tried to teach us music, when I could sing little else, and last summer when I found time to explore new music all day, and do little else.

totally crushing on this wedding.

I figured that the notion of weddings was appropriate for a Sunday morning, as long as I include some valid commentary. I couldn't exit it out of the tab where the pictures were, so here I am, and am as smitten as I was last night.
First of all, the dress, it suits her body type so perfectly, and I am undone by the elegance of the long long dress. The lace particularly is wicked classy, but definitely has a very modern flair to it. Plus, the very neutral tie at the waist breaks things up and provides definition without distracting from the gorgeous flow of the dress itself.
I'm not sure how I feel about the vintage handbag, mostly for the sake of "what would i do with that?" but now that I think of it, it might be nice to store some little handies for the day in one of those, as opposed to a ziploc baggie.
I'm definitely digging the light suit for the man. It's grey which helps me to relinquish any negative ideas associated with light beige suits and beachy weddings. I confess it does look more casual than the black, but let's consider their setting - he couldn't possibly have worn such a stark black in the country, so grey is a great compromise.
The bouquet!!! Who knew that hydrangeas could look so exquisite in a big ball with roses tucked underneath? Their colors were lavender and grey which makes me a little sleepy - they're just so soft and light.
The homemade flair is definitely to be admired. The very personal and functional handwriting aspect is a really big deal to me . . . probably because I'm rather fond of my own handwriting.

Anyway. It's funny to me at times how much I adore looking at weddings, and admiring all that is to be had with them, and yet I am in no hurry to arrange my own. Living in the town I'm in, marriage comes up . . . a lot. There is always more to explore on the topic, but I'm okay offering only theoretical opinions at this point. Very very okay.

a little catch-up

So I saw Across the Universe. Wow. I'm rather disconcerted that it has taken me so long to become part of this beautiful piece of cinema. At the start, I wanted to see it simply to have a valid opinion on it to utilize during conversations about the film, but it ended up being quite a bit more for me.

Often I gauge movies by how much I want to see them again right after the film is over, and frankly, though I finished this one in the wee hours of the morning, I would have sacrificed sleep gladly, to watch it again.

What I appreciated most was the seamless fusion of era, story, art, and Beatles music. If anyone has any doubt that cinema is an art form, this film surely proves that it is.

I know I know

Okay, just a little more wedding business . . . mostly to get it out of my system. But frankly this is more a documentation of a very cute haircut, nice invitations, cute shoes, and a great vintage backdrop! She hand-pasted little french maps into every envelope. Wow, how I would love to get one of these little pretties in the mail.
Her sweet embroidered sweater is from ebay . . . nice! And her hair. I've had my hair that short, and it's tough to make it formal, and she does a marvelous job and being classy, yet stylish and individualistic.
These shoes - very clever. She just tied little velvet bows onto plain white shoes. I find that a very practical tip for any footwear.
And this lovely backdrop. Just a wholesale sheet. So great. (Please forgive me for the fragments . . . I know they're not actually complete sentences, but that's how my thoughts are coming out right now.)
