i picked up this gem last night at a bookstore by les halles.

779 images of women through the ages. Technically yes, it is la mode - fashion, but I'm more intrigued by a) the photography, b) how women are portrayed in photography and c) the development made in the past 100 years. I'm kind of in love with it. I keep flipping through finding new gems.

Today I was inspired by hippie-era ladies . . . that could be the reason for the fire and rain inclinations. Regardless, this will be something I hold on to for a long time to come.

I was thinking this afternoon (as I wandered around near Sacre Coeur) that this book will never go out of style; I can be inspired by these women and never ever fear that things won't last because history is set in stone and eternally classic. I have had far more "fashion is so stupid" - moments here than I ever had in the states. When we discussed things that were overrated for us in France, women's fashion was one. Sure, there are some great dressers around here, but they all look the bloody same! The boyfriend blazer + skinny jeans + the wannabe vanessa bruno sequined bag + studded heels + oodles and oodles of b.l.a.ck.; good-ness!

Well there's that. I've decided that that will probably never suit me. Ever. So I will stick to my "Tres Tendance" and be happy.

When I was in Paris back in the 60's, the stuff I saw there didn't make it to the states for a couple of years.

The world has indeed shrunk - and news travels very fast.

Hence, French fashion is mostly just fashion.
