It was beautiful. Have you ever been there? The thing I love most about it, is that it's free. I don't mean to accentuate this as my favorite aspect simply because I'm a penny-pincher (which, well, I kinda am) but - because it was the wish of J. Paul Getty, the man who put up 1 and 1/2 billion dollars to erect this edifice of marble that currently houses the art, that everyone be able to appreciate the art . . . for free. So the whole notion of elitism in art is completely shattered. Except for the parking fee (which was apparently instated by LA county, and can be avoided if one could find other means of transporation) anyone can view Degas' ballerines, or King Louis XIV's chairs, or Van Gogh's irises - for free.
My my. What a gift art is. You can tell how important it is simply because I'm making such a big hoopla that you can find it somewhere for free, and that somebody would be that passionate to pour in bundles of dollars to give it to the people.
Let them have art, for it's much better, and lasts longer, than cake.
