For instance, when the founding fathers finally founded this place, what were they thinking? I'm sure they were absolutely relieved that everything was finally settled, but I can't help but wonder whether they were a little bit sad. I know they were fully cognizant of the gravity and spanning impact of their efforts, and I wonder if they also realized that this very significant chance was gone now, never to be returned. I don't really know.
I suppose it's the time of year that has brought my musings to this particular stop. Leaving things behind is sad; concluding a significant segment of one's life is sad too, but perhaps those founding fathers were too far above it all to experience anything like that. No matter.
Fortunately, there will always be things to fight for. Once the 13th amendment was passed, there was still so much to do. With the Constitution written, it still had to be implemented and maintained. I suppose that life continues rushing by, and sometimes there isn't time to be sad. But I guess what I'm shooting at here is that there are things constantly starting and ending, and we need to recognize the significant individuals that have come before us.
