An Ode to St. Valentine

I was told today that this holiday-Valentine's Day was created by the Communists in order to cause divorces among Americans and that you're either lonely, guilty, or pressured, depending on your current relationship.
I don't think that's true. It might be that there was need for a holiday between New Year's and St. Patties.
Nonetheless, the simple fact is that I am alone tonight. I can jump up on a pedestal and proclaim that I like being alone, and that I'm am totally o.k. with my status. This is partially true.
The book I've just finished, "the little prince," makes the point that what is essential is invisible to the eye. This day proclaims to be about love. Is it? All of the red roses, shiny balloons, and pretty treats are meant to proclaim one's love, an essential thing; and yet they are visible to the eye. Frankly, I would rather do without them all. I don't agree with it. {although that may be because I'm feeling the effects of those pretty sweets.}
But for me this day, this "holiday," is most purely the opportunity to reflect on how the world tries to express it's love, and what I can do to avoid such petty attempts in my own life.
So I shall enjoy my own company tonight, and express my love to those who deserve it.
